Wal-Mart Stores Inc. says it is on track to complete training of more than 225,000 employees at its training academies by the end of the year. The Bentonville, Ark.-based company opened the 100th training academy in Edmond, Okla., in mid-April, with plans to have 200 academies up and running by the end of the summer.

The academies, which opened last year, offer employees an opportunity to learn new skills, including enhanced training specific to fresh produce handling and operations, which the company says leads to “greater job satisfaction, personal and professional growth and stability.”

“The Walmart Academy has given me the opportunity to help associates build and grow their careers with the company, but also helped me grow as a leader and an individual,” says Alesha Odenbret, Edmond Walmart academy facilitator. “I have had an incredible experience with the company and I wanted to be able to share that with other associates.”

Since 2016, the company says more than 52,000 employees have graduated from Walmart Academy programs.
