Wal-Mart: DFW market huge for grocery pickup

Wal-Mart: DFW market huge for grocery pickup

While we’re all talking about the impact of Wal-Mart Stores Inc.’s e-commerce success, let’s take a look at some numbers relevant to grocery pickup.

The Dallas Morning News has a fantastic article about the service, which was a pilot for the Bentonville, Ark.-based retailer.

The Lone Star State is Wal-Mart’s biggest market, and they put up some big numbers for grocery pickup in DFW.

Wal-Mart’s “Dallas area market coach” for e-commerce, Jason Fogerty, told DMN some North Texas stores are filling as many as 900 grocery pickup orders per week, and the average for the region is around 500 to 600 orders a week.

The service launched in the area in October 2015, and has since expanded to 50 stores. Nationwide, Wal-Mart offers grocery pickup at 500 stores and plans to add 600 more stores this year, according to the article.

I just tried it again, from my suburban Austin home. Check out the video from Pamela’s Kitchen.
