AUSTIN, Texas—The third annual Viva Fresh Open kicked off the Viva Fresh Expo April 20 with a better-than-expected turnout, and a larger-than-expected donation.
The event, held at Barton Creek Resort, featured a sold-out field of 36 teams and enough sponsorships to raise a healthy chunk of cash for the Let’s Move Salad Bars to Schools program, said Craig Slate, golf committee chairman and vice president of sales for SunFed, Rio Rico, Ariz.
“We were shooting for about a $15,000 donation, but it looks like we’ll be able to do $20,000 this year,” he said.
The tournament also awarded cash prizes of $1,200 for the top teams in net and gross scores, and $600 for second place finishers.
