Russo’s in Watertown, Mass., is well-known in the Boston area for its fresh produce, but thanks to 23-year-old deli clerk Guilherme Assunção, they’re on the national map for another reason.

Assunção stepped up to the mic during an in-store event sound check on Dec. 16 and started singing.

Crowds gathered, and cell phones started recording. The clerk, a native of Brazil, came to the U.S. to study music. School became too expensive so he got a job at Russo’s about four months ago when he changed the course of his education to business, according to the Washington Post.

Now, he’s all over national media.

Assunção told the Post he hopes to return to his music education, and says his coworkers at Russo’s have been “amazingly supportive.”
