Supervalu taps Instacart for e-commerce improvements

Instacart does more than deliver groceries.

Eden Prairie, Minn.-based Supervalu Inc. just entered an exclusive multiyear contract with San Francisco-based Instacart to launch refreshed e-commerce sites.

Four banners are part of the launch: Cub, Farm Fresh Food and Pharmacy, Shop ‘n Save and Shoppers Food and Pharmacy. The new e-commerce platforms for the banners are now “Powered by Instacart,” which provides not only click-and-collect, but also integration of store coupons and loyalty rewards for orders placed online through the sites, according to a news release.

The banners are in Minnesota, St. Louis, Mo., Virginia Beach, Va., and the Washington, D.C. area.

Supervalu has been offering same-day grocery delivery with Instacart since September 2015.

“Our relationship with Instacart continues to evolve, and going forward we have a great plan for delivering online grocery and meal solution options for our retail customers,” said Anne Dament, executive vice president of retail, marketing and private brands for Supervalu, in a news release.

Supervalu also recently launched an enhanced suite of meal kits and value-added meal solutions under its Quick & Easy Meals brand, available to its own brand stores, as well as its 3,000 independent grocer customers.
