Mastronardi Produce, a fourth-generation family-owned business that pioneered greenhouse berries in North America, has launched Summer Dream raspberries, its latest berry innovation under the Sunset brand, according to a news release.
The Kingsville, Ontario-based greenhouse grower says Summer Dream is a proprietary variety with high brix that produces consistently plump and juicy berries that are sweeter than a traditionally tart raspberry.
“We are very excited to bring this remarkable raspberry to market,” Paul Mastronardi, president and CEO of Mastronardi Produce Ltd., said in the release. “Summer Dream outperforms other raspberry varieties currently in retail in both flavor and shelf life, which sets it apart.”
The award-winning variety is backed by the same berry dream team that brought WOW Berries to market, the release said. Sunset has exclusive rights to growing, distributing and marketing the ruby red raspberry.
Summer Dream’s label is designed to captivate consumers. It features palm trees and a sunset scene that communicate a tropical, summer vibe on a palette of electric colors like teal, pink and orange, the release said.
Summer Dream raspberries will be freshly picked and packed into two convenient size formats: a 6-ounce clam for the consumer on the go and a 12-ounce clam suited for families and the daily berry consumer.
Available this fall in retailers throughout the U.S., Summer Dream raspberries will be on spotlight at the International Fresh Produce Association's Global Produce & Floral Show, Oct. 19-21, in Anaheim, Calif. Visitors to the trade show are invited to the Sunset booth (No. 1281) to sample Summer Dream raspberries.
