Everyone in this business has a bit of a Store Check Junkie in them. On a recent trip to Capetown, South Africa, Farm Journal Media's vice president of publishing Shannon Shuman was kind enough to send these photos back for us to enjoy.
He visited two stores. First up: Woolworths Food Woolworths was the more upscale stop, with a big selection, local promotions and more decorative fixtures. They're big on local around here -- 90%? Wow. Not sure what makes this "fresh for longer" Butter + sweet corn = BFFs It was near Valentine's Day for the visit, hence the XOXO signage. Signage talks up water, fertilizer sustainability. Berries + cream on display, near Valentine's Day. No shocker: cape gooseberries in Capetown. Mostly packaged bananas on display Second stop: Pick N Pay, a discounter based in a mall. A local variety of squash. It must be popular to warrant three types of packaging. Not sure if "bachelor" here means single, or if it's a local variety. It looks like most bananas are sold packaged, like these in a box.
