I visited the Denver area in late February, attending the Colorado Fruit and Vegetable Growers Association meeting as the keynote speaker. When I wasn't talking Fresh Trends with growers and retailers, I was ... you guessed it ... looking at stores.
First up was a quick run through the world's smallest Whole Foods Market, in downtown Denver. The former Wild Oats location was hoppin', despite the limited assortment.
Second was a quick run through Wal-Mart in Longmont. I've been there before, and it's a nice, newer store that was used as a grocery pickup pilot.
Then I swung by Lucky's in Longmont. I was there to talk about their recent Florida expansion announcement, but I couldn't resist a walk about their first expansion store.
Then, my last two stops were on the way to the airport after the CFVGA meeting, where I heard Tom Lynch of King Soopers and Kenny Meyer of Whole Foods speak on a fantastic panel.
Tom said King Soopers is working to promote its local offerings better with consumers, and I saw a lot of local signage in store.
My final stop was Sprouts Farmers Market. Chad Miller and Cory Oliver chided me for not shopping there for apples, so I had to check out what they had to offer.
So, that was my whirlwind trip through Denver. Where will the Store Check Junkie strike next?
