Yellow-flesh nectarines saw an average price of $1.83 per pound across the U.S. the week ending July 12, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's National Retail Report for specialty crops. Last year at the same time prices averaged $1.76, the USDA reported.
According to U.S. Marketing Services data, which samples four retail chains in eight markets across the country, the average per-pound price for yellow-flesh nectarines was $2.22 on July 10, a bit higher than the USDA average. Walmart had the cheapest prices in Atlanta, Dallas, Detroit and New York, ranging from $1.93-1.99.
Demoulas' Market Basket had the least expensive price in Boston, at $1.79; Jewel had the lowest price in Chicago — and across the country — at 99 cents (on ad); Ralphs had the lowest price in Los Angeles, at $1.99; and Fred Meyer was the cheapest in Seattle, also at $1.99 (on ad).
