West Sacramento, Calif.-based Raley’s Family of Fine Stores redesigned its Extra Credit Grants Program, pledging nearly $300,000 for Northern California & Nevada school nutrition and wellness education programs.
“At the heart of Raley’s philanthropic endeavors is community wellness and nutrition,” said Becca Whitman, community relations manager and executive director for Raley’s Food for Families program, in a news release. “Our Extra Credit program is committed to supporting our schools and school districts in their efforts to encourage healthy eating and strengthen nutrition education.”
Raley’s is distributing the funds to local schools this fall, with grants to 35 programs focused on:
- Installation of water filtration and bottle refill stations
- Gardening projects
- Healthy cooking classes
- Wellness/nutrition education
- Food literacy programs
- Healthy meals and snacking
- Workforce development and career technical training
The company plans to open the grant submission period for the Spring 2018 cycle on January 1. Accredited K-12 schools are eligible to apply for grants in the areas of food literacy, healthy living, nutrition, agriculture and food supply and origination.
