During the company’s second quarter earnings call held Aug. 31, Dollar General CEO Todd Vasos reiterated the strong performance of stores remodeled to accommodate more fresh produce.
Vasos said the 60 or so stores remodeled this year with enhanced fresh produce offerings “were producing three to four times” the improved performance of a traditional remodel.
“So, we're very excited about that and we believe that it has broader application across many of our areas where we'll need to remodel stores over the next few years,” Vasos said, during the call. “When you look at the complete package of these remodels, we feel very comfortable and confident that we have a blueprint to go forward with into next year.”
The company posted strong sales numbers, up 8% to $5.8 billion for the quarter, with same-store sales growth of 2.6%.
Dollar General also opened its 14,000 store during the quarter, and Vasos said the company is on track for its goal of having a store within five miles of 75% of the U.S. population.
