Hydroponic living lettuce grower Pete’s, Carpinteria, Calif., is launching Greenhouse Fresh, a line of packaged salads that highlights sustainability practices at the company.

The Greenhouse Fresh salads — Benevolent Butter, Hydro Spring Mix, Indoor Romaine and Nice & Crunchy — will appear in West Coast grocery stores in early January, according to a news release.

The company is partnering with 1% For The Planet, pledging to give 1% of Greenhouse Fresh salad sales to The Recycling Partnership.

“Pete’s investment helps us further our goals of assisting every household to recycle more, recycle better, and to catalyze a circular economy,” Beth Schmitt, senior vice president of corporate engagement at The Recycling Partnership, said in the release.
The salads are packed in containers made from 100% post-consumer recycled material that’s fully recyclable, and the resealable closures use less plastic than rigid plastic lids.

The company promotes the greenhouse-grown products as using less water and protected from the environment.

Pete’s is employee-owned, and they play a key role in its sustainability efforts, CEO Brian Cook said in the release.

“All of us at Pete’s are thrilled to introduce a line of packaged salad varieties, that as we like to say, are as green as greens can get,” Cook said in the release. “At Pete’s, we work as a team and everything we do, we do for the greater good of people, of the planet and of course our leafy greens.
