I managed to wrangle a few of my Produce Club participants into participating in a video for me. It's part of my multi-faceted coverage of the Pamela's Produce Club for the January issue of Produce Retailer Magazine.
I pulled together 20 apple varieties to sample, over two nights in December. I focused on apples that were 1. exclusive or club varieties that are 2. typically promoted later in the season, like January through April.
We tried (in alphabetical order):
1. Ambrosia
2. Arctic Golden
3. Autumn Glory
4. Envy
5. Jazz
6. Junami
7. Kanzi
8. Kiku
9. Koru
10. Lady Alice
11. Opal
12. Pacific Rose
13. Piñata
14. Rockit
15. Ruby Frost
16. Smitten
17. SnapDragon
18. Sonya
19. Sweet Cheeks
The overall favorite was Sweet Cheeks, a pilot test cross between Honeycrisp and cripps pink (typically marketed as Pink Lady).
Here what three attendees thought of the apples we tried.
