Each year this coveted award is presented to an individual who has excelled in all facets of their career in the past year, including business success, fostering relationships in the produce industry and giving back to the community.
The individual may represent any area of the Canadian produce industry, including private, government or allied sectors.

The Packer has been presenting this award to outstanding members of the industry for 50 years. Past honorees include:
- David Karwacki, retired CEO of Star Produce, received the 2024 Canadian Produce Person of the Year award.
- Mario Masellis, vice president of sales and marketing for Catania Worldwide and Canadian Produce Marketing Association chair, was named the 2023 Canadian Produce Person of the Year.
- Mimmo Franzone, then senior director of produce, floral and merchandising services for Longo Brothers Fruit Markets, was named the 2022 Canadian Produce Person of the Year.
- Larry McIntosh, former president and CEO of the Peak of the Market, was presented with the 2021 Canadian Produce Person of the Year award.
- Oleen Smethurst, assistant vice president and general merchandise manager for Costco Wholesale Canada, received the 2020 Canadian Produce Person of the Year award.
