Melissa’s Produce says the season is underway for organic Harry’s Berries strawberries, now available exclusively through the company for retailers nationwide.

"For years, Harry’s Berries were a hidden gem in Southern California, sold only at farmers' markets where crowds would line up just to get a taste," Robert Schueller, public relations director for Melissa’s Produce, said in a news release. "We’re honored to bring these incredible berries to retailers across the country so more people can enjoy the amazing flavor that’s made them a local favorite."

Melissa's Produce says that while premium products like Harry’s Berries carry a higher price point, the fresh berry category continues to grow; with a 9.1% increase in 2024, it ranks among the top 15 categories by dollar change. Consumers are increasingly seeking premium, flavorful and organic options, and Harry’s Berries fits the bill with their flavor, seasonal appeal and compelling family story, the release said.

The Harry’s Berries name comes from the farm’s founder, Harry Iwamoto, who established the family farm in 1967, bringing traditional farming methods passed down through generations in Japan. Today, the farm continues to honor his legacy with a focus on sustainable, organic farming practices that prioritize the health of the soil and the protection of beneficial pollinators, the release said.

With no synthetic chemicals used, the berries are given the time they need to ripen naturally on the vine, resulting in a strawberry packed with intense sweetness and flavor, the company said.

Harry’s Berries are in season now through May, or as nature dictates, and Melissa’s Produce offers them in 16 1-pound clamshells, the release said.
