A bigger Northwest pear crop will give retailers plenty of promotion opportunities this year.

Wenatchee, Wash.-based Stemilt Growers is encouraging retailers to boost their pearcategory now by using branded products to increase sales and rate of pear consumption, according to a news release.

“Harvest is underway on the 2018-19 pear crop and the new season is already presenting itself with great promotion opportunities,” Brianna Shales, communications manager at Stemilt, said in the release.

“Pear volumes are up significantly over last year’s crop, with a great range of sizing to fuel both bulk and bag promotions. Retailers who carry Lil Snappers pears can boost category performance by selling more volume and marketing intent to a key shopper group in their stores.”

The Lil Snappers program began in 2011 and offers pack options that include an organic 2-pound and conventional 3-pound pouch bag. Conventional and organic Lil Snappers pears are offered in the bartlett and starkrimson varieties, with anjou and bosc added as harvest progresses.

Pouch bags can boost impulse purchases and purchase size by selling more volume, Shales said in the release.

Lil Snappers bags come packed in Lil Snappers display-ready cartons, making display building efficient for retailers, according to the release.
