The Produce Mom, started five years ago by Lori Taylor as a blog for Indianapolis Fruit Co., is now The Produce Moms, an educational media brand with a national focus.
“I believe that if we are going to change the way America eats and establish a preference for fresh produce, we have to start at the source and build an community of moms, children and school professionals that want to see positive change. This community of Produce Moms will be comprised of the people that will ultimately lead and shape change in their local homes, schools and communities,” Lori Taylor, CEO of The Produce Moms, said in a news release.
“We intend to provide our community of Produce Moms with access to educative content on a regular basis, as we have done for the past two years.”
During the past two years, The Produce Mom has hosted special school events in Indiana designed to introduce students to fresh produce and help school foodservice workers incorporate fresh produce into meals. The events were funded through a U.S. Department of Agriculture Team Nutrition grant to Indiana, which continues through 2018.
Next year The Produce Moms plans to publish a national digital curriculum and a continuing education program for school foodservice departments, according to the release.
