Instacart's got a toe in the door at Walmart

San Francisco-based Instacart has partnered with more than 190 retailers, and its latest conquest could gives the third party service an in at Bentonville, Ark.-based Walmart Inc.

Instacart and Sam’s Club announced a pilot of delivery in select markets – about 40 Sam’s Club locations – with plans to expand to additional markets throughout the year. The initial launch is in St. Louis, Dallas, Fort Worth and Austin, Texas, according to a news release.

The partnership also means Instacart shoppers in those markets have access to Sam’s Club without a membership, although it is noted that Sam’s Club members have access to members-only pricing.

With the deal, Instacart says it now partners with the “eight largest grocers in North America.” Dacyl Armendariz, communications manager, said in an email the company works with more than 190 retailers, the largest of which are:

  • Publix
  • Ahold Delhaize
  • Supervlau
  • Aldi
  • Sam’s Club
  • Loblaw
  • H-E-B
  • Wegmans
  • Sprouts Farmers Market
  • Bashas’
  • Stater Bros.
  • Schnucks
  • Homeland Stores.
