Phoenix-based Sprouts Farmers Market is the latest retailer to sign up with third party delivery service through Instacart.

Sprouts said in a news release the San Francisco-based service will expand the company’s home delivery in “all of its major markets” beginning in Arizona.

Sprouts currently offers home delivery in eight cities through Amazon Prime Now. The continuation of that program was in question following Amazon’s acquisition of Whole Foods Market this summer.

In August, Sprouts expanded its partnership with Prime Now, and CEO Amin Maredia previously said the company plans to continue Sprouts’ service through Prime Now.

Donna Egan, a Sprouts spokesperson, reiterated Maredia's comments, saying in an email the Instacart option is in addition to the company's Prime Now offerings.

"We currently are offering both services, although there is no market crossover," Egan said in an email. "For Sprouts, we are primarily focused on offering the convenience of delivery to our customers -- and how we do that may involve multiple platforms and certainly will evolve over time."

The Instacart roll-out is planned for phases, starting with “select zip codes in Phoenix and Tucson, Ariz,” with additional markets added at a later date, according to a news release.

“We are excited to respond to customer demand for fast, convenient home delivery of their favorite Sprouts products in all of our major markets across the country,” Maredia said in a news release. “Home delivery is a natural way for Sprouts to engage with our customers on their healthy living journey, and our partnership with Instacart allows us to quickly scale for that growth.”

Instacart has had a busy fall and winter, with partnerships announced with most of the big retail chains in the U.S., including H-E-B, Publix, Wegmans, Kroger, Safeway/Albertsons, Ahold and Costco, just to name a few.

Bentonville, Ark.-based Walmart Inc. hasn't joined up, and Target Corp., recently acquired Instacart competitor Shipt, and has since announced started the process of ending its relationship, though the Minneapolis-based company hasn't given a timeline for the breakup to be complete.
