Insights from back-to-back Produce Artist Award Series winner Brian Dey

Insights from back-to-back Produce Artist Award Series winner Brian Dey

by Ashley Nickle, Jun 22, 2021

Brian Dey, senior merchandiser and natural stores coordinator with Ephrata, Pa.-based Four Seasons Produce, has earned top billing in back-to-back seasons of PMG's Produce Artist Award Series.

The selection committee for the program, which includes produce retail veterans Mike O'Brien, Joe Watson and Armand Lobato, chose Dey's entry as the best in the merchandiser category in the winter and spring seasons. They discussed his work during the Produce Artist Award Series spring results webinar.

Because Dey was the first repeat winner in the series — and the first unanimous decision — we visited with him to hear more about the displays he submitted, what he likes most about being a merchandiser, how he engages store-level teams and much more. Check out the video above for the conversation.

Dey very much embraces the mentorship element of his role and has taken the opportunity to share his insights not just with the folks he works with directly (like John Truncale of Brattleboro Co-Op, who was just recognized by United Fresh as one of its outstanding produce managers of 2021) but more broadly as well, including through regular columns for PMG about merchandising and training.
