Hispanic banner shines amid Southeastern restructuring

While Jacksonville, Fla.-based Southeastern Grocers plans to close 94 stores amid its Chapter 11 bankruptcy restructuring, there’s one bright spot in the company’s portfolio: Fresco Y Más.

The banner, launched in 2016 in South Florida, is expanding with three new locations in Orlando and Tampa, the company said in a news release.

“We are confident that now is the time to introduce Fresco Y Más into Central and West Florida neighborhoods and offer those customers an authentic Hispanic grocery store experience,” said Anthony Hucker, president and CEO of Southeastern Grocers, in a news release.

Openings are expected in April.

Fresco Y Más currently has 22 locations. Of the 94 stores Southeastern Grocers is closing in its Chapter 11 restructuring, only one is a Fresco Y Más.

One of the new Fresco Y Mas stores will be a former Winn-Dixie, according to an article in the Orlando Sentinel.
