What stops a shopper from trying a new fruit or vegetable is often uncertainty: How to choose the right one, when it's ripe enough to eat and how to cut it and use it. It can't be stated enough what a barrier to purchase a lack of knowledge on culinary preparation can be.

With mangoes, it's often how to cut into it (to bypass this block, fresh-cut is always a good option to offer). Produce departments, mango producers, marketers and retailers need to tell consumers how to cut a mango — in the easiest, most approachable ways.
Start with point-of-sale signage, and consider adding a QR code giving shoppers a how-to video on your website or social media. It could be your own video or the National Mango Board's offerings.
On Mango.org, the Mango 101 How-To menu has several useful tips consumers need to become first-time and repeat purchasers of mangoes:
- Choose a mango.
- Wash, cut/slice/dice mangoes.
- How to prepare mangoes.
- Eat and cook mangoes.
- Ripen and slow down ripening.
- Store and preserve mangoes.
Use these basics for your own marketing, advertising and social media strategies as well.
