ORLANDO—Two new retail organizations were recognized for joining Produce for Kids at the organization’s annual reception held in conjunction with the Southeast Produce Council’s Southern Exposure on March 10.
Harps Food Stores kicked off its promotions in January, and Military Produce Group plans to start in-store promotions April 1, said Trish James vice president of Produce for Kids.
Harps, along with Associated Wholesale Grocers’ Springfield Division, James said, also is undertaking a Produce for Kids first — a year-round in-store promotion.
“Instead of just having Harps and our little stores, we’re starting with 270 stores in the whole division, and Mr. Townsley was very instrumental,” said Mike Roberts, produce merchandiser for Harps.
Roberts said Harps has been working on putting the program together for about a year.
“Feeding kids, feeding families and selling produce are the three things I’m passionate about, and Produce for Kids pulled it all together,” he said. “So far in just two months it’s been very rewarding, very fun.”
