Sweet potatoes were the No. 14 vegetable on The Packer's Fresh Trends 2017 list of most commonly purchased vegetables, with 41% of respondents reporting purchase in the past 12 months.
Sweet potatoes were most commonly purchased by our eldest age group, with 48% of those 59 and older reporting purchase, compared to just 32% of the youngest age bracket.
Conventional sweet potatoes were promoted in an average of 3,276 stores per week in 2016, an increase of 2,351 stores per week in 2012, an increase of 39% over a five-year period. Much of that increase in promotion is happening in the January-February time frame, outside of the traditional Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter holiday promotion time.
