Food Lion rolls out new To-Jo Mushroom Chop

by Pamela Riemenschneider, Aug 30, 2017

Starting August 30, more than 1,000 Food Lion stores will roll out a new triple-chopped white mushroom pack from To-Jo Mushrooms, Avondale, Pa.

The Mushroom Chop is a 6-ounce till designed as a ready-to-blend option with ground protein. To support the launch, Food Lion shoppers can get 50 cents off ground beef sales combined with the purchase of Mushroom Chop.

"What our team really likes about The Mushroom Chop is that it hits on convenience and offers the consumer a value-added option with versatility," says Kevin Delaney, vice president of sales and marketing for To-Jo Mushrooms. "Having the support of both the produce and meat departments is game-changing for us. This new product launch and promotion has the potential to make a significant impact in the blendabiltiy trend for the industry."

To-Jo is working closely not only with Food Lion to market the product to consumers, but also with employees to help them understand how blending mushrooms with meat works via its Kitchen Live social media platform with the hashtag #kitchenliveseries

"We are always excited to partner with To-Jo on the introduction of new products and trends at the store level," says Traci Donaldson, Food Lion category manager, in a news release. "With Mushroom Chop, we will be able to showcase The Blend initiatives in an exciting new format, giving our customers additional uses for mushrooms and helping to grow the category."

The Blend, an initiative by The Mushroom Council, encourages mixing chopped mushrooms with ground protein in recipes like burgers, tacos, meat balls and more.
