In this Season of Giving promotion, retailers choose the program or charity of their choice and G&R Farms allocates a portion of all retail sales to donate to that charity in the retailer’s name. “It’s a win for everyone,” he said. “This is the second year for our Season of Giving promotion, and we continue to grow retailer participation as they welcome the opportunity to give back in their communities.”
For 13 years, Shuman Farms, Reidsville, Ga., has distributed special pink RealSweet onion bags, display bins and point-of-sale displays to support breast cancer awareness each October, donating more than $110,000 research for a cure.
“This year, we’ll be honoring those impacted by the disease while working to educate consumers on the cancer-fighting nutrients found in sweet onions,” said John Shuman, president and CEO.
Besides the in-store elements, the company will provide cozy blankets to chemotherapy wards and clinics, and the Shuman team will participate in a virtual fundraising walk in October.
Also, Shuman Farms will partner with influencers impacted by breast cancer, allowing them to tell their stories while sharing healthy recipes and encouraging their followers to eat a healthy diet with fresh sweet onions.
This onion’s cancer-fighting antioxidants quercetin and allicin will be highlighted.
“We’ll be continuing the ‘food is medicine’ conversation and touting the health benefits of a nutrient-rich diet with fresh produce,” he said.
Then, in November and December, it’s all about the Feeding America-branded bags, rather than the RealSweet bags for Shuman Farms, plus donating 100,000 meals to help families in need.
Retailers can get in-store signage and a digital toolkit with social media graphics to promote this program.
