Earthbound Farm wins sustainability award

Earthbound Farm has been recognized in the sustainability category of the Inc. 2024 Best in Business list.

These awards honor companies that have made significant contributions to their industries and society, celebrating those who lead with purpose and innovation, according to a news release. Earthbound Farm said it developed more sustainable packaging formats such as a new Plant Based Tray, invested in innovative farming practices such as regenerative organic and greenhouse farming and created delicious products that increase consumption of fresh produce.

In 2024, the brand says it completed its conversion of peel-and-reseal lids with its 100% recycled plastic trays. The conversion includes a printed lidding film with no top or bottom label which reduced plastic use by 34% to 44% per package, the release said. Overall, Earthbound Farm said this shift reduced its total plastic use by approximately 10 million pounds annually while delivering fresh greens.

In July, Earthbound Farm says it launched a first-of-its-kind plant-based tray made from recycled plant-based fibers. The tray is designed to protect the freshness of its produce while using 95% less plastic than the standard clamshell package and is H2R-certified recyclable with biodegradable certification in process, the release said. Consumers have been asking for less plastic, Earthbound Farm said.
