Minneapolis-based Target is launching new store formats, and most recently opened a next generation concept store in Richmond, Texas.
The San Antonio Express-News has a great article and slideshow with a tour of the concept, which combines a smaller grab-and-go focused grocery with a more department store feel in hard goods.
But, of course, not all stores will get a makeover right away. I've noticed a few changes take over in my Cedar Park, Texas, store lately. Over the weekend, I stopped by the produce department and saw something that only produce merchandising nerds might notice at first.
Chalkboard signage.
Yeah, it's not that big of a deal, and we'll see how long the care and maintenance lasts, but it is a big step up from the cold, stale signs used elsewhere in the stores.
