While scrolling this week, we found weirdly-shaped squash, different brains, bubble gum, carrot bacon — and news about at least one thing that's getting more affordable. Oh my!

We learned something new from Dave Dinesen's post: neurodiversity.
The CEO of CubicFarm Systems Corp. shared a personal story about hiring and cultivating a new understanding of people who think differently. That doesn't mean people with different political beliefs or cultural values, but people whose brains literally work differently that normalized brains — such as people with autism or attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.
Dinesen hired his own son who has autism, and he discovered how much a company can benefit — in productivity, financially — from people who may otherwise score low in job interviews, communication skills and emotional intelligence.
Reposted from Fast Company magazine, the article shares how we can retain employees longer by shaping the job around their skills and passions, rather than trying to fit a square peg in a round hole, so to speak.

We were hooked in by the “Did you know?”
We'd like to think we knew. But we didn't. This post told us that Mayans discovered the first chewing gum from the sapodilla tree. The gum comes from the sap, not the actual fruit, but it's still a fruit tree, so it counts as fresh produce. This is what we call a #funfact.

In a world where it seems everything costs a lot more than it did in 2019, Get Fresh Sales gave us some good news, finally.
As the global organics market grows, prices will drop. And that means the price gap between conventional and organic produce will continue to shrink. For growers and marketers of organics, that's most welcome. Ahhhh, something positive.

TikTok
Tabitha Brown, who changed her diet to vegan to solve chronic pain issues, has 4.9 million followers. Her carrot bacon video was no small part of her viral success. We landed upon her repost of it on the one-year anniversary.
She has a soothing, musical voice and manner that encourages cooking with vegetables. And yeah, we've had carrot dogs. Why not carrot bacon?

It's a great idea to start a post with a quote. This one is an attention-grabber, and it works.
Guess what? The company knows some stuff.
Formerly called Imperfect Produce, this company has expanded exponentially, requiring the more pertinent name, Imperfect Foods.
Forbes magazine wrote about the company's mission to reduce food waste, and they linked it here. Every company should promote any good coverage they get. (Especially from us, ahem.)
