California Giant Berry Farms is reporting a bountiful harvest of California strawberries. The company said the industry is gearing up for a remarkable peak of season — promising an abundant supply of fruit in the coming months.

The Santa Maria growing region is showing strong early-season production of conventional and organic strawberries, the company said. It expects peak volumes will arrive by mid-May. Notably, organic production in Santa Maria will mirror the conventional peak, ensuring a steady supply of premium organic fruit into the middle of May, according to a news release.

The Watsonville and Salinas growing region is also ramping up production, with volumes increasing weekly, according to California Giant Berry Farms. It noted that spring rains have caused temporary harvest disruptions, but the company projects peak harvest volumes will continue throughout June. The Watsonville/Salinas organic peak will mirror that of Santa Maria, hitting its stride in mid-May, it added.

“We’re thrilled to see such a strong California strawberry harvest,” said Tim Youmans, vice president of sales for California Giant Berry Farms. “The optimal growing conditions experienced this season have resulted in exceptional fruit, and we’re confident that customers will be pleased with the quality and flavor of our California-grown strawberries.”

This surge in production presents an opportunity for retailers and consumers alike, the company said. To fully leverage the upcoming peak, it encouraged retailers to implement engaging promotional programs that it stands ready to help with.

To maximize sales and consumer engagement, California Giant Berry Farms recommended retailers create eye-catching displays showcasing the vibrant colors and freshness of the strawberries and offer a variety of pack sizes of both conventional and organic to cater to diverse customer needs.

Using digital marketing to promote the availability of peak-season strawberries is also essential, it added. Citing the rapid growth of e-commerce within the fresh produce sector, the company said digital marketing can amplify consumer education and simultaneously drive demand.

Springtime events like Mother’s Day, Easter and Earth Day can also be an opportunity to showcase berries. By emphasizing their seasonal freshness, visual appeal and sustainable sourcing, foodservice operators can effectively leverage heightened consumer interest in both celebratory dining and eco-conscious choices, according to the company.
