AWG, Produce for Kids "Turnip the Beet" on promotions

More than 270 retail stores have signage featuring Produce for Kids and Feeding America this year as part of a partnership with the Springfield, Mo., division of Associated Wholesale Grocers.

Produce for Kids and AWG Springfield are also working with 17 produce suppliers, which will be highlighted in stores, according to a news release. Retailers will also have “veggie-themed photo opportunities”  — shoppers can snap a picture with a Turnip the Beet character cutout — and stores will provide tips from registered dietitians.

Digital components of the campaign include social media, email newsletters, a website with recipes featuring products of the suppliers, and more.

“After the success of our 2017 Produce for Kids campaign, we decided to make 2018 bigger and better with additional in-store signage and support of our produce supplier partners,” AWG Springfield produce operations and sales manager Gary Townsley said in the release. “This effort allows our retail members to encourage their shoppers to purchase more fruits and vegetables while giving back to their local community.

“It is our mission to provide our retail members with the tools needed to offer a fresh and healthy experience to shoppers when visiting their produce departments,” Townsley said. “This campaign, along with several other in-store programs offering free fruit for kids, will help us build on that mission.”

The campaign will raise funds for Feeding America programs designed to reach families in the footprint of AWG Springfield.
