Avocado retail volume beats year ago by 30%

U.S. hass avocado shipments sizzled in October, with volume 30% above year-ago levels.

The Hass Avocado Board said that volume for the four-week period ending Nov. 4 last year totaled 157 million pounds, up 30% in volume compared with the same period a year ago.

Total sales for the month were pegged at $167.6 million, up 2.1% compared with the same period a year ago. 

Average selling price for hass avocados for the four-week period ending Nov. 4 was $1.09 per pound, down 21.5% compared with year-ago levels.

Retail year-to-date volume of avocados through Nov. 4 totaled 1.95 billion pounds, up 28.8% compared with January through Nov. 5 2017. 

Total year-to-date retail sales of avocados through Nov. 4 notched $2.14 billion, according to the Hass Avocado Board, up 8.3% compared with the same period a year ago. 

The average year-to-date retail selling price of avocados through Nov. 4 was $1.10 per pound, down 15.9% compared with the same period in 2017.
