The U.S. Apple Association released its April holdings report, which is 36% higher than inventories reported in April 2023 and 29% higher than the five-year average for holdings for the same period.
The current holding of 68 million bushels is down from the 124.4 million bushels reported in the association’s Dec. 1 report.
Processing apples remains high for the USApple Tracker’s April report, with 26 million bushels, which is 25% more than the previous year and 20% more than the five-year average for April.
In the December report, USApple counted 48.5 million bushels of processing apples.
Washington leads the states with the most apples in holding at 76,173,333 bushels of fresh and processing apples. New York follows with 7,270,550 bushels of fresh and processing apples, and Michigan is third with 4,880,000 bushels of fresh and processing apples.
Top varieties in holding include Honeycrisp at 14,105,744 bushels of fresh and processing apples, red delicious with 13,703,479 bushels of fresh and processing apples, gala with 12,384,679 bushels of fresh and processing apples and granny smith with 11,528,939 bushels of fresh and processing apples.
