1. What labor shortage? How this onion grower does it
Nov. 15, 2022
Jessica Pedroza, office and human resources manager of Pacific Agra Farms in Walla Walla, Wash., shares that although it’s a short sweet-onion growing season of only 2½ months, they see many employees return each year and must stop taking applications because they get more than they could possibly need — while many of companies nationwide have experienced the pain of labor shortages the last couple years. This episode is conducted by Equitable Food Initiative and is about driving worker morale and engagement by building personal relationships. With employees, Pedroza starts from a place of respect and works on building relationships. This approach might sound simple, but it’s not easy. Maintaining real relationships takes dedicated time and consistency.
