Founded in 2002, the Santa Fe Farmers Market Institute (SFFMI) was created to support the Santa Fe Farmers Market’s efforts to make healthy, locally grown food easily accessible to the community of Santa Fe. SFFMI’s first mission was to provide an affordable year-round space for the market to operate as well as offer farmers with a discounted space a year-round venue to sell their goods. From there the Institute expanded its efforts to support the local agricultural community by providing farmers with professional development and training programs, microloans and business consulting. For the community, SFFMI has implemented Double Up Food Bucks, a program that doubles EBT/SNAP transactions to increase shoppers purchasing power and feed the local economy by supporting its farmers.
