Tonnemaker Hill Farm (THF) is located in Eastern Washington on the slopes of the Frenchman Hills. THF is a fourth generation farm that was started in 1962 by Orland and Pearl Tonnemaker. It is currently run by Kole (Orland's grandson), Sonia, and Luke (Orland's great grandson).
Kole and Sonia Tonnemaker are the driving forces behind the changes that have allowed the farm to survive some difficult years. They foresaw the need for a fundamental change in the farming process to make it a more sustainable practice for the sake of the land, the customers, and for future generations.
This need for sustainability pushed them towards organic practices and allowed the farm to weather the near extinction of the small, family run farm. Sections of the farm went into transition to organic in 1997, and the whole farm was certified organic by 2008. The farm is 126 acres and consists of 60 acres of orchard, 20 acres of vegetables, 40 acres of hay, and 6 acres of odds and ends.
