About Us

In 1951 Art Caston moved from the San Fernando Valley to Imperial Valley and became partners in a labor contracting business. After saving and getting help from friends, he began farming in the Calipatria area. Along with another partner, he built and operated Green Valley Farms, a cooling, packing and shipping shed in Brawley. In 1955 Art had a son, Troy, thus the "Troy Boy" label, which has since been used on a variety of produce including celery, asparagus, carrots, artichokes and melons, with tomatoes and onions being his trademark. Troy grew up working on the ranch and following in his father's footsteps. Troy Caston Farms was developed as Troy had his own business ventures while still working with his dad. When Art retired in 1994, Troy took over the ranch along with the Troy Boy label. After so many years of father and son farming side by side, the transition was natural but not without challenges. The importing of tomatoes along with labor issues forced Troy out of the tomato growing business. While adapting to many changes in the farming industry, Troy began to focus on onions and the reputation of the Troy Boy label so well known in the produce industry for the past 40 years.
