The local Piggly Wiggly stores in Columbiana and Sylacauga are owned and operated by the Culotta family. The Culottas have been in the grocery business in Alabama going back as far as the 1920’s. Sam Culotta, Sr., the father and the current owners, worked for his parents in a small neighborhood grocery store in the College Hills neighborhood of Birmingham. In 1979, Sam, Sr. and his sons Charles, Vince and Sam, Jr. opened up the Piggly Wiggly store in Columbiana and have proudly served that community for over 30 years. In 1992, the Culottas purchased an existing store on Highway 21 in Sylacauga location with frontage on Highway 280.
