Welcome. We’re Alan and Vanessa Hutchings, the owners of Enzed Exotics. Alan has been a grower nearly his entire life, and even grew up not far from our fields in coastal Bay of Plenty. Intrigued by the Kiwano, he planted his first vine in 1985… and so our story begins. After 30 years perfecting his craft, Alan has become recognised as a world expert in this exciting fruit.
Today Kiwano is all we grow. We absolutely love what we do, and we think that love is really reflected in the quality and purity of our naturally grown Kiwano. Working with the land is so much more than a business – it’s our way of life.
At Enzed Exotics we have a long-term commitment to sustainable farming practices.
“My mantra has always been healthy, nourished soil equals healthy fruit,” explains Alan. “We do not farm intensively and choose not to use harsh chemicals or pesticides, only using natural fertilisers like seaweed on our plants when needed. Weeding is done by hand and when the fruit its ripe, it’s also hand-picked. It does take more time and effort to farm this way. But the end result for consumers is fruit that we believe has an unmatched quality, longevity and purity of flavour.”
It’s our goal to only grow what we know we can sell each season, avoiding the use of extra natural resources. All our packaging is recyclable. Enzed Exotics Kiwano is a non GMO fruit.
